Mission Projects
Overview
The United Methodist Church at Newfoundland is committed to mission work, which we see as an opportunity to demonstrate our love for one another and our faith in the love of Jesus Christ. Throughout the year, we sponsor both on-going and special projects that allow each church member, however young or limited in resources, to share their gifts with our community and our world. If you have time, talent, or treasure to share, please consider one of the following mission opportunities or let us know of your ideas to bring God’s message of hope and caring to those in need.
Ongoing Collection Projects – Use the bins in Fellowship Hall
• Non-perishable Food
• Brown paper and/or plastic grocery bags are needed to distribute donated food.
• Clothing – We need clean, seasonal, gently used clothing.
• Footwear – Seasonal shoes and/or boots.
• Cell Phones – These are recycled and/or sold with proceeds to benefit victims of domestic violence.
• Food and cosmetic products coupons
Disaster Relief
When disaster strikes, church members are asked to donate such items as food, clothing, cleaning materials, and medical supplies. Church members have also assisted in rebuilding efforts in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.
Blood Drive
Give the gift of life at one of our blood drives.
School Launch Program
We help the children at the Ada Budrick Day Care Center in Boonton get the supplies they need to be prepared to learn.
Thanksgiving Baskets
Hunger doesn’t take a holiday. Each Thanksgiving, church members come together and prepare Thanksgiving food baskets, complete with a turkey and all the trimmings.
Christmas for the Children at the Ada Budrick Day Care Center in Boonton
Every December, we ask church members to provide Christmas gifts for the children at the Ada Budrick Day Care Center.
Sanctuary Christmas Tree
In December, our beautiful sanctuary tree is decorated with ornaments representing donations to that year’s special mission project. In 2009, we decorated our Christmas tree with mitten ornaments representing each donation of gloves, mittens and hats of all sizes collected for distribution locally in the city of Paterson, New Jersey.
